Most Shopify merchants hit a login issue at some point — forgotten passwords, expired sessions, lost two-factor devices, staff offboarding. The login flow itself is simple; the recovery and security details are what merchants actually need to know.
How to log in
- Go to https://accounts.shopify.com (or your custom admin URL like myshop.myshopify.com/admin).
- Enter your email and password.
- Complete two-factor authentication if enabled (highly recommended — and required for stores processing real revenue).
- Access the admin dashboard.
Common login problems and fixes
- Forgot password — Click "Forgot password" on the login screen. Reset link goes to your registered email.
- Lost 2FA device — Use a backup code (Shopify gives you these when you set up 2FA — save them somewhere safe). If you lost those too, contact Shopify Support for identity verification.
- Email no longer accessible — Contact Shopify Support directly. They will verify ownership through billing details and government ID.
- Account locked — After too many failed attempts, accounts lock for security. Wait 30 minutes and try again, or reset the password.
Security practices that matter
- Enable two-factor authentication immediately. A breached Shopify admin is a direct path to customer data and order tampering — 2FA is the single highest-ROI security investment you can make.
- Use staff accounts, not shared logins. Each team member should have their own login with appropriate permissions. Shared logins make it impossible to know who did what.
- Audit staff access quarterly. Remove permissions from anyone who has changed roles or left. Departing employees with admin access is one of the most common merchant security failures.
- Use a password manager. Strong, unique passwords for every account — especially the admin login. Memorized passwords are almost always weak passwords.
Logging in on mobile
The Shopify mobile app supports the same login flow with biometric authentication (Face ID, fingerprint) on the device. Most merchants find the mobile app sufficient for daily order checking, inventory glances, and customer messages — keep the desktop admin for serious work like theme edits and reporting.
