Common questions about the customer portal

Do customers need a Shopify account to use the portal?+
No. OTP login works without a Shopify customer account - subscribers just need access to their email.
Can I customize what customers can self-serve?+
Yes. Under Portal permissions you can disable self-cancel, frequency changes, or product swaps individually - useful if you prefer some actions to route through support.
Will portal changes sync back to Shopify?+
Yes. Every action writes to Shopify's native subscription objects in real time. No background sync delay.
Can I send a customer directly to the portal?+
Yes - share yourstore.com/account/subscriptions. They'll verify with a one-time email code and land on their subscription.
Does the portal work on mobile?+
Yes. The portal is fully responsive and tested on iOS Safari, Chrome Android, and in-app browsers from order confirmation emails.
What if a customer can't log in?+
You can generate a one-time login link from the admin (Subscribers → Send portal link). The link expires in 30 minutes.
