No value,
No charge.

No monthly fees. No upfront costs. Joy takes a small percentage of your subscription revenue - and only after you've had 6 months to grow.

A pricing model that forced us to be good

When we started building Joy in 2023, the subscription app market had a familiar pattern. Charge merchants $99/month regardless of whether the app actually helped them grow. Collect the fee whether the merchant made ten sales or zero. The incentive was to acquire customers, not to retain them.

Our team at Avada had been building Shopify tools since 2018. We'd seen what happens when an app company's revenue is disconnected from its merchants' success — features get bloated, support gets slow, and the roadmap serves the company instead of the people using it. We wanted to build something where that couldn't happen.

So we made a simple decision: no monthly fees. Joy charges 1.5% of subscription revenue, and only after merchants have had 6 months or their first $1M in subscription sales to get established. If a merchant installs Joy and it doesn't help them grow, we make nothing. That's not a marketing angle. It's how we pay our team. It keeps us honest.

“We could have charged $49/month and made money from day one. Instead, we chose a model where every morning we wake up and ask: are our merchants actually growing? Because if they're not, neither are we.”

Four commitments that come with our model

When your revenue depends on merchant success, these aren't values on a wall. They're survival.

Your growth is our revenue

We don't make money from setup fees, onboarding charges, or monthly minimums. Our entire revenue comes from a percentage of your subscription sales. If your subscribers churn, our revenue drops. If your store grows, so do we.

0% fees for your first 6 months or first $1M in subscription revenue. We invest in your ramp-up period because we're betting on what comes after.

No hidden math

One fee: 1.5% of subscription revenue after your intro period ends. No per-transaction charges stacked on top, no platform fees buried in fine print. Our pricing page shows you exactly what you'll pay and when.

Other apps charge $99/month plus transaction fees. That means they get paid even when your subscriptions aren't working. We chose not to do that.

We build what grows your revenue

Every feature request goes through one filter: will this help merchants earn more subscription revenue? If it will, we build it — because more merchant revenue means more Joy revenue. Our roadmap is driven by what actually moves numbers.

Dunning management was requested in week one of our beta. It shipped in week four — because failed payments are lost revenue for both of us.

Support that can't afford to be slow

When a merchant has a problem, their subscription revenue is at risk. And that means our revenue is at risk too. This is why our reviews name individual team members — Audrey, Emily, and the rest of the team across US, EU, and APAC time zones.

We don't close tickets. We stay until the problem is solved. A merchant losing subscribers is a problem for both of us.

What this looks like in practice

Saying our incentives are aligned is easy. Here's what we actually do, week in and week out.

Free managed migration

Switching from another app is risky. One mistake and subscribers churn. We assign you a named team member who handles the entire migration — because every subscriber who drops during a bad migration is revenue neither of us gets back.

Available 24/7, response within minutes

When your subscription orders are stuck, every minute matters — to you and to us. Our support team is available around the clock and responds within minutes, not hours. Because a merchant losing subscribers is a problem for both of us.

Public changelog

Every release is documented. What shipped, what was fixed, what's next. We don't do black-box updates because you need to trust the tool your recurring revenue depends on. And we need you to keep using it.
